MakeDeathsCount 2022–2024 Impact Report: Every Life Counts

At MakeDeathsCount, we believe that every life counts, and every death deserves to be understood. In many low- and middle-income countries, deaths often go unrecorded or lack an accurate cause of death, leaving families unheard and health systems without the data they need to prevent future loss.
Our 2022–2024 Impact Report highlights the progress MDC has made toward closing this gap. Over the past two years, our team has supported verbal autopsy projects in vulnerable and crisis-affected settings, including Northwest Syria and Somalia. We collected over 600 causes of death and associated factors in Northwest Syria, identified 50 maternal mortality cases in Somalia, trained local health workers, strengthened partnerships, and advanced our digital tools for mortality surveillance.
The report also shares stories from the field, lessons learned, and our next steps as we continue building more accurate, community-centered systems for understanding mortality. From training local teams to developing new technology and expanding partnerships, MDC is working toward a future where no death goes uncounted.
